Showing Off Our Proud Hands
Many of the “Proud Hands” book storytellers, along with their friends and family, gathered in New York City to take part as a team in the annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk. The storytellers traveled from across the country, from as far away as California and Puerto Rico, to meet one another and share in their common bond of inspiring the world through how they live well with PD.
From the “Proud Hands” storyteller reception celebration where they first had the chance to meet one another in person, to the approximately 10,000 participant-strong Parkinson’s Unity Walk the next day, the storytellers created friendships of a lifetime.

Proud Hands Launch at Unity Walk
“Proud Hands” was launched at the annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Central Park in New York City. Actress and PD advocate, Holly Robinson Peete, plus several storytellers from “Proud Hands” and representatives from Teva Neuroscience and APDA were on hand to talk about the importance of learning to live well with PD. Unity Walk participants had the opportunity to get the book for $15, with all proceeds going directly to APDA.
Included in the book is a foreword by Holly Robinson Peete. Peete’s father, Matt Robinson, was affected by Parkinson’s, but like many others living with PD, he showed strength, spirit and hope each day. Through the foreword, she applauds the proud hands of these storytellers and the millions of others worldwide in her father’s memory.
